The CBCF - Oxford University Scholarship

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) stands at the forefront of advancing the global Black community. Since its inception in 1976, the Foundation has been a beacon in leadership development, policy advocacy, and public education. With a commitment to nurturing the next generation of Black leaders, the Foundation is proud to announce an unprecedented collaboration with the University of Oxford, aimed at shaping future of foreign policy and national security experts.

The Program: This groundbreaking initiative will offer full scholarship funding for two exceptional alumni of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Leadership Institute to pursue a master’s degree at the prestigious University of Oxford, Magdalen College. The scholars will engage in rigorous academic study, while also contributing to practical policy development through the publication of issue briefs on pertinent foreign policy and national security topics.

The program’s primary goal is to cultivate Black American emerging political leaders with a global perspective. By immersing scholars in a rich academic environment at Magdalen College, Oxford, we aim to foster diversity in the foreign policy and national security pipeline. This partnership underscores our commitment to equity and excellence, while recognizing the invaluable contributions of Black leaders shaping a more inclusive world.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for this transformative opportunity, the candidate must be an alumni of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Leadership Institute programs, have obtained a bachelor’s degree by May 2024, and be between 21 and 32 years of age, with a GPA of 3.7 or higher is preferred.

Programs Offered (Magdalen College Oxford): The master’s degree eligible for pursuit – Diplomatic Studies, Economics for Development, Global Governance and Diplomacy, History MSt, or Global and Imperial History MSt, enabling the scholar to delve deep into the selected area of study.

Application Requirements: Applicants must submit a personal statement (limited to 1000 words), three (3) letters of recommendation, CV (no more than 2-pages), official academic transcripts from all attended colleges and universities, and a professional (appearance) headshot.

The Process: Congressional Black Caucus Foundation alumni will apply through the Foundation’s website during the application period April 15 – May 17, 2024 (closing at 11:59 pm ET, May 17, 2024). Semi-finalist will undergo interviews, and selected finalist will receive guided support from the Foundation throughout the University of Oxford application process.
